A PASSION FOR PITTSBURGH

Corey O'Connor is the current Allegheny County Controller, first appointed to the position in July 2022. Previously, Corey served for 11 years as a city council member for Pittsburgh, representing several of the city's most diverse neighborhoods in the East End.

On city council, Corey focused on community development and revitalization and passed legislation aimed at making Pittsburgh a healthier, greener, and more equitable city for all its citizens. Some of his proudest achievements include:

  • Sponsoring legislation that guarantees employee accrual of paid sick days
  • Fighting for increased gun control measures, including a ban on the usage of high-capacity machine guns.
  • Ensuring that developers were held accountable for building affordable units in new construction
  • Working with local, state, and federal employees to reconstruct the Greenfield and Fern Hollow Bridges and crafting legislation that would increase transparency and reporting requirements for infrastructure across the city.
  • Increasing funding for early childhood education by millions of dollars.

Since becoming Controller, he has sponsored multiple community forums on assessment appeals assistance, begun long-overdue audits on various organizations and institutions including VisitPittsburgh and the County Jail, and worked to improve and modernize data transparency. As Controller, Corey sits on the Allegheny County Retirement Board, Investment, Jail Oversight Board, and Juvenile Detention Board of Advisors.

A strong advocate of community service and support both inside and outside government, Corey was twice honored as Squirrel Hill Little League Baseball Coach of the Year and was the youngest varsity sports coach in WPIAL history. He coached the Central Catholic High School Golf Team for 17 years, and also served on several local boards and commissions, including the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera (CLO).

Corey lives in Swisshelm Park with his wife, Katie, daughter Molly, and their dogs, Tippy and Nova.
